Planning

Once we have completed all the necessary environmental assessments and carried out a comprehensive consultation exercise with the community, we refine our proposals to make sure we have taken account of any important information or views expressed. For example, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) helps us to determine the exact location of the wind turbines by specifying which parts of a site are best suited for the necessary groundworks.

When we have finalised all of the reports we need, we are able to submit a planning application to the relevant local authority for approval. Large applications (for wind farms of more than 50 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity may need to gain approval from central government, depending on the jurisdiction in question.
